UPEC in TILAS project

UPEC has participated in the Celtic plus project TILAS. the participation of UPEC in this project is carried out by the Image, Signal and Complex systems LAB (LISSI). LISSI develops methods and algorithms for modeling, analysis and control of networks and complex systems.

TILAS project deals with large scale deployment in smart city applications.
In this project, UPEC mission is to design a novel routing protocol for multimedia wireless sensor networks while targeting a smart city application scenario like video surveillance.
The network architecture includes: (1) multimedia devices generating multimedia traffic, (2) router devices relaying the multimedia traffic inside the mesh network using IEEE802.15.4 , (3) gateway device collecting data from the mesh network and making it available to the user.

To achieve energy efficient routing, UPEC has designed and specified Odysse protocol: Opportunistic Duty-cYcle routing protocol for wirelesS multimedia Sensor nEtworks. Odysse is based on low duty-cycle to enable energy saving for battery operating devices.

Another mission of UPEC in TILAS project is to develop a platform of a wireless multimedia sensor networks with the Odysse protocol. The objective is to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed solutions in a real hardware and to move closer to a commercial solution.

In this context, UPEC has developed a platform based on 50 Arduino nodes, xbee radio modules and serial ttl jpeg camera. The platform is integrated in the experimental large scale FIT IoT-LAB platform, in particular in Rocquencourt platform
This integration enables among others, the remote access of the UPEC platform from the Internet.
